Does Shen trigger before Kha Zix gets +2 from an ambush? | tcgmode

I thought Kha zix's attack ambush was added on a chain and figured you could respond to it by playing shen, but the guy I fought said that wasn't how it worked. Could I get clarification as to how the interaction would play out?
