Why was Meloku so good back in the day? | tcgmode

I was looking through an archive of old tournament decks from about 20 years ago and was surprised to see Meloku in a good amount of lists across various formats. It’s not apparent to me what made this card so particularly versatile. Can you more experienced players offer some insights? Thanks.
