Persistence and +1/+1 counters | tcgmode

Heard someone say this goes infinite with any (free) sac outlet, cause +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters cancel eachother out. I get that they do strictly stat wise, but do they remove each other, or does the -1/-1 counter stay on the persisted creature? I'm already excited to try out the Witherbloom pr...
